My Amazing Trip to the Digital Family Summit

Standard

I’m in the car from Philadelphia and writing this post. For 3 days I participated in the Digital Family Summit.  It was my first and probably best conference I’ve ever been to. I will tell you why this conference was so thrilling for me!

There were workshops and I went to two of them. One of them was called ‘digital photography workshop’. I really liked this workshop because I like photography a lot and I wanted to learn about taking better photos with my iPod Touch. That inspired me because I always thought that I take bad photos and I actually take good photos. There was an activity and we had to do it in partners, we had to take pictures of our partners, we had to take a picture of something digital, something family, and a summit. I was really proud when I saw my photos and my friends photos on the slideshow at the end of the conference!  Special thanks to the photography teacher Cynthia Lawson Jaramillo and my partner Clarrisa and I loved meeting my new friend Robin.

I was really looking forward to having a blog and at the WordPress workshop I got m chance! I set up a blog at this amazing workshop led by Tracy Levesque. They had computers for us to use and everything and right now I’m posting on that blog. It turned out magnificent! Don’t you think? Special thanks to Tracy the workshop leader and somebody helped me a lot! Thanks to Tori and her mom for helping me!  Tori even wrote a blog post on her blog, My Utoria, about me!

There was one session with teen entrepreneurs who shared their successful stories and they inspired me so much. There I met Tori! Tori’s story inspired me because Tori’s mom helped and supported Tori a lot with her business, MyUtoria. Tori is 15 years old and has Cerebral Palsy which means that her muscles don’t work properly and it’s hard for her to be a ‘regular’ teenager. She helps young women to become entrepreneurs and start their own business.  Tori also founded She Can Make A Change – an organization to help young women make positive changes in their own lives and their environment. I am so proud to call Tori my new friend.

On Saturday night there was special guest was Dave Carroll came to tell his story about United Breaks Guitars and the power of social media, the story of Dave’s story started like this,  Dave was on a airplane and when he landed he found that his guitar got damaged badly. He contacted the airlines, United, and he asked if they can fix it and they said they would not. Dave wasn’t going to give up. Dave said that he’s going to film three videos about how United broke his guitar and nobody did anything about it and he was going to get one million hits and he did exactly that and more. Not only did the one million, he got 150 million hits and he was interviewed on many TV shows and newspapers. The best part for him is when he was invited to the Taylor Guitars factory, his favourite guitar manufacturer, and he got to go to a tour there.  After Dave went on the tour a man that worked at taylor guitars told him that he could get 2 guitars for all his trouble from United Breaks Guitars. The story really inspired me. Dave’s website is www.davecarrollmusic.com.  You can also watch the videos that he made on YouTube.

There were two parties and one of them was sponsored by Ubisoft  – it was a dance party and it had just dance 3 and  4! My favourite part of that party was dancing to the song Party Rock Anthem!  There was a photo booth (those photos to come later) and hair crimping, I did both! The 2nd party was called pink carpet party and was sponsored by Gillette Venus! That party was rocking! They had a pink carpet when you could take your picture! I did it 3 times! The first time was when I was normal the 2ond time was when I got makeup and the 3rd time was when I got my hair curled!

I danced my heart out that night! I also saw the liberty bell, there’s a picture of the bell at the bottom. There was also beautiful fireworks!

Special thanks to the Digital Family Summit organizers Stephanie  Schwab, Jennie Baird and Adam Gertsacov. I also loved hanging out with my friends Julie Cole and her kids Posy and Mack.

Thank you so much to my mom and dad because they’ve been to a lot of conferences and this time they brang me! My mom’s website is www.nameyourtune.com and my dad’s is thatericalper.com.

I had a great time, I made new friends and I learned and I got my first blog!

If you have any questions or comments please leave one in my blog and I’ll be happy to reply! At the conference there were a lot of kids so bring them next year! I really recommend for you to come next year! For more information and to sign up for this just go to www.digitalfamilysummit.com!

  1. Great post, Hannah! I found your focus and motivation inspirational. I told my 5 year old daughter about you when I got home and she said “I would like to learn more about WordPress.” 🙂

  2. Hi Hannah-it was so great to meet you and your family. You are so smart and independent and I know you will be successful in whatever you do. You’re off to a great start with this blog and I will be a follower for sure!

  3. I really enjoyed your blog post, Hannah. It sounds like this was a great conference. I think your post is well written and expressive — it conveys a sense of your own voice. You do a great job building in links and driving traffic to other sites, and I’m sure those authors will be happy to return the favour. I also think your photos are very good and effectively illustrate your observations and ideas. Keep up the great writing – I look forward to reading more in the future!

    • Thank you so so much Josh! You really gave me your honest opinion about my post. Maybe one day I’ll be in student council like you and my mom Candace were. I bet it was fun! Your comment was really really nice.

  4. Hi Hannah! This is Dez. You may remember me from a couple of visits to see your pretty face, and that of your mom and dad’s, and your awesome dog Indigo at your home! I just wanted to say we are all so proud of you taking this big step to break into the blogging world. You’re well on your way to discovering lots of new things about yourself, your friends, and the things that are interesting to YOU! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with the world. We love hearing from you.

I hope to see you again before the end of this summer. Maybe we can have our own dance party to Party Rock Anthem?

  7. Hi, Hannah! It was such a pleasure getting to know your mom this weekend at the Summit, and now I feel like I’ve gotten to know you! That is what blogging is all about – connecting with other people and making them feel like you are their friend. What a stupendous job you’ve done! Best of luck – I know we’ll continue to see great things from you!

  8. Dear Ms Amazing, you’re already a better blogger than me, your mom and your dad combined! Love it. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. Unless it’s your parents. You should probably listen to them. Mostly.

  9. As one of the organizers of the Digital Family Summit, having attendees like you be able to create a terrific looking blog (and write terrific posts) is perhaps one of the most gratifying things that could happen. Keep on writing and photographing and blogging and expressing yourself creatively. It makes the hard work of putting on a conference worth it.

    • Thank you Adam so much. It really was a great weekend. You organized it really well. It was a pleasure to meet you, stephanie and i loved meeting Aaron! He’s a such a nice and adorable little boy. Please show Aaron and Stephiane the photo of me and Aaron on my post. If you didin’t organize this conference i would never have so much views. Thanks!

    • Adam- I read Hanna’s post to my two son’s (age 10 & 8) and now they both want to go to the Digital Family Summit too. They already started their own blogs but haven’t written as much as Hannah has! Well done – clearly the conference was fantastic!

  14. Wow Hannah – it looks like you really had a great time at the conference and learned so much. My other friend Scotty Reiss also had her daugthers Estee and Cameron there too and they told me how much fun they had and how much they learned. Blogging is such a great way to express yourself and share your experiences. I know your mom and dad too and you’re one lucky little girl to be able to have cool parents who support you and help you with all of this. Who knows, maybe you’ll teach them a thing or two pretty soon as well. All my best to you and your blog!! – @BarbaraJones

  18. Hannah, I am not quite recovered from the conference, but I just wanted to tell you how impressed I am with your new blog and how happy I am that you were part of the Digital Family Summit. You took away so much to bring back home with you – skills, friendships and passion. Adam, Stephanie, Christina and I worked SO HARD in the months leading up to the event, and your enthusiasm for the experience makes feel that all the effort we put in was really worth it.
    xo

    • You don’t have to be recovered! Stick the memory in your head! I hope that my post might make more people come next year. I bet the conference turned out as well as you dreamed it could be! To me it was! Thank you so much for caring about me Jennie. See you next year1 You’re #1
